The Power of Words: Understanding How Language Shapes Character

If you're like me, the phrase "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me" was simply not true. We might say that it's true in order to pretend that the words don't hurt - but, they do.

The words we use have the power to discourage or to inspire. General terms ("good", "bad", "great", "nice") promote people pleasing, fear of authority and manipulation. Using specific language to acknowledge positive behavior, guide behavior to be positive before it happens and correcting negative behavior is the best way to help children - and adults - internalize character.

This workshop provides simple, effective tools to help you get started immediately. It is suitable for anyone wishing to improve all relationships and to establish a peaceful, respectful environment.

The length of this program can be adjusted to meet your needs.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved. ~ Helen Keller
