What You Can Do To Change The World - Or At Least Your Corner Of It

1. Recognize that Words have Power. Words have the power to discourage or inspire, to educate or to demean. When we speak respectfully to people around us we increase the liklihood that understanding will occur.

2. Don't Get Furious. Get Curious!
When something - or someone - is making you angry . . . Stop. Recognize that you're angry. Realize that a resolution is impossible while you're upset and, instead, choose to ask questions that will help you understand and find a solution.

3. Set Boundaries and Consequences with Restorative Justice as the Goal. Boundaries keep us safe and teach our children that they are important to us. When we give in to a temper trantrum to spare ourselves short term dispair, we teach them that tantrums get them what they want. The boundaries we set teach those around us HOW to behave with us. Boundaries and consequences that are consistent are certain to work especially when they serve to educate instead of simply punish. Punishment by definition does not permit the opportunity to make amends but restorative justice does. This is the key to lasting change.

These simple steps have the ability to transform relationships in your life. Give them a try.
