Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only
through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened,
vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

The Case for Character Education
How is this program different from other programs?
There are many other programs out there. Most of them are behavior-based prevention programs - bullying, drugs, gangs, pregnancy, etc.
This "virtues-based" program uses specific language and discipline that is designed to prompt reflection in order to develop character qualities from the inside, out.
What makes this program really stand out is the understanding that positive language is actually creating a problem in our culture. Using positive language incorrectly and failing to implement boundaries that include restorative consequences are creating both a sense of entitlement and a lack of self-esteem in our children.
Studies show that character is built and internalized through a process that includes awareness, understanding, action and reflection.
What is the solution to the problem of diminishing values?
The debate needs to rise above values which are individual or cultural. The solution is one step deeper and lie in virtues. Virtues are universal, innate qualities of character. They are important to all cultures and faiths.
I understand that you may be thinking, “Our school already has a character program.” Or, like many teachers, you may love the idea strengthening life skills in children, but just don’t have the resources to plan and implement anything else.
I understand completely and I know how challenging working with young people can be. It makes the situation even more challenging when you are bound by the constraints of the system.
You have experienced how important it is to teach children to be responsible, accountable, and respectful. You have seen self-confidence emerge. You understand that character education is more than just a lesson. I also know that you are tapped out in terms of time, energy and maybe even ideas.
Again, I understand. Really, I do.
In fact, I get it so much that I started partnering and working with educators, youth clubs, churches and other family/child-centered professionals, just like you, to implement fun, fresh and easy approaches to empower and connect with younger people.
Working with five internationally-proven strategies designed to build character, we will teach you to blend simple techniques and strategies into the incredible work you are already doing to ignite initiative and problem-solving, enhance self-esteem, improve grades, decrease problem behavior and cultivate a strong sense of community in the classroom and at home.
A few of the ways we do this include:
- Assemblies and workshops for children, parents and professionals.
- Hosting/co-hosting special events including expos, community fairs and more.
- Educator training and teambuilding workshops to learn to better engage today’s youth.
- Personalized coaching, consultation and evaluation services.
- Co-create custom programs and curriculum for your group.
- Emotional Intelligence assessments.
Children must be immersed in activities that reinforce character on a daily basis if they are to truly become the leader’s they are meant to be. To determine the activities that are right for the children in your care, please contact me at Community Character or 914-388-2532.
